In 1983, Alison Bechdel began publishing her poignant--and hilarious--comic strip, Dykes to Watch Out For. Since, she has become well-known for work that is smart, funny and incisive, interrogating everything from gender and sexuality to politics, queer or otherwise. And, best of all, Bechdel's characters are still those she started with in the 1980s, although they've grown with the times, giving her readers the unique experience of bonding, relating and aging right along with them over the years.
Below you'll find one of her more recent strips. She includes a few other selections on her website, and she has also published at least a dozen books, including the huge archival volume The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For and an autobiographical graphic novel, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic.
